Effective date: 11 October 2026. This policy applies to products purchased from Zaybees Audio. It explains our approach to returns, fault assessment, lightning and surge damage, installation standards, courier expenses, statutory refunds and manufacturer warranties. Please read it with our Delivery & Shipping Policy and Terms & Conditions.
1. No additional voluntary change-of-mind returns
Zaybees Audio does not offer discretionary refunds or exchanges simply because a customer changes their mind, no longer wants an item, purchased the wrong item or later finds a lower price. This does not affect any legal cancellation rights or other rights that apply to the transaction.
2. Seven-day online cooling-off rights, where applicable
For qualifying online purchases, section 44 of the South African Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives consumers the right to cancel a goods transaction without giving a reason within seven days after receiving the goods. The Act lists exceptions under section 42, including certain custom-made or personalised products and unsealed software or recordings. Where the right applies, the customer may be required to pay only the direct cost of returning the goods; Zaybees Audio will refund the relevant payment within the legal period, generally 30 days after cancellation.
Contact us promptly in writing if you wish to exercise a statutory cancellation right. We may inspect the goods to document their condition or investigate separate damage, but we will not impose an arbitrary fault-testing requirement or waive mandatory cancellation rights.
3. Faulty products and the statutory six-month warranty
Under sections 55 and 56 of the South African Consumer Protection Act, qualifying goods must be safe, of acceptable quality and reasonably suitable for their intended purpose. If goods fail to meet the applicable standards within six months of delivery, the customer may return them without penalty and at the supplier's risk and expense, and choose the applicable statutory remedy: repair, replacement or refund. The Act also provides remedies for certain faults discovered following a repair.
These rights are separate from and additional to any manufacturer warranty. A condition in this policy cannot take away a statutory right or require a customer to pay return courier charges for a qualifying section 56 defective-goods return.
4. Manufacturer and extended warranty claims
Warranty periods and coverage differ by manufacturer and product. Proof of purchase and a clear fault description may be requested. During any applicable voluntary manufacturer or extended warranty, repair or replacement claims are assessed under the relevant written warranty terms, subject always to the customer's non-excludable statutory rights. Zaybees Audio will explain the next steps and any legitimate courier or assessment costs before proceeding.
5. Lightning, power surges and other excluded damage
Damage actually caused by lightning, electrical surges, excessive or incorrect voltage, power-supply faults, incorrect polarity or wiring, water ingress, physical impact, unauthorised modifications, deliberate abuse or misuse is generally not covered by manufacturer or voluntary warranty and does not qualify as a manufacturing-defect refund merely because the item is within its warranty period.
Zaybees Audio may inspect and test the item to establish the nature and probable cause of damage. Lightning or surge damage will not be automatically presumed: if inspection shows that an inherent product defect or another legally covered issue caused the failure, the customer's statutory rights remain in force. If external surge/lightning or customer-caused damage is confirmed, we will provide the findings and, where available, an optional paid repair estimate rather than a warranty refund.
6. Installation by a suitably qualified professional
Customers must comply with the manufacturer's instructions, product specifications and applicable electrical or installation regulations. Where a product requires professional installation under applicable law or the manufacturer's disclosed warranty terms, installation must be completed by an appropriately qualified or certified installer, and the customer should keep the installation invoice or certificate. This is especially important for electrical equipment, vehicle amplifiers, alarms, multimedia systems and air-conditioning equipment.
We strongly recommend competent professional installation for technical products. We may request installation evidence when diagnosing a claim. However, a missing installer certificate alone will not invalidate non-excludable statutory rights; any refusal based on installation must rest on a lawful requirement and/or evidence that improper installation or use caused the particular fault.
7. Testing before a faulty-product refund or warranty replacement
Products submitted as defective may be subject to reasonable inspection and functional testing, including checks for signs of blown components, burnt circuitry, overheating, surge exposure, tampering, liquid damage, incorrect wiring and other external causes. Please supply the order number, description of the problem and, if available, photographs and installer documentation.
We will communicate our findings and the remedy or options available. Testing is used to distinguish a genuine product defect from excluded damage; it is not a reason to delay or refuse a lawful remedy, nor to charge a customer an undisclosed fee for a statutory defective-goods claim. If the evidence is disputed, please contact us for a review and lawful consumer-dispute options.
8. Who pays courier charges for returns and warranty items?
- Legally valid defective-goods claims (including Consumer Protection Act section 56): Zaybees Audio bears the risk and reasonable return transport expense required by law. Contact us before sending the item so we can arrange appropriate transport or explain reimbursement of reasonable agreed courier expenses. The legally required remedy and necessary return costs will not be charged to you.
- Applicable online seven-day cooling-off cancellation: The customer is responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods, as permitted by the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
- Non-defective goods, out-of-warranty requests and damage outside warranty coverage: The customer generally pays the courier cost to send the item to Zaybees Audio and the courier cost of returning it to the customer. Any assessment, repair or additional transport charges will be communicated before the customer agrees to pay them.
- Voluntary manufacturer or extended warranties beyond mandatory statutory protection: The customer ordinarily arranges and pays courier transport to us and return transport after assessment or replacement, where permitted by the particular warranty and applicable law. If a mandatory warranty or defect remedy applies, the legally required supplier-funded transport rule takes precedence.
Please do not send products without first contacting us for return instructions and a reference number. Safe packaging and tracking are recommended. Do not send hazardous batteries or damaged electrical goods by an unsuitable courier.
9. Return procedure
- Contact Zaybees Audio using WhatsApp 083 280 7066 or email zaybees.audio@gmail.com with your order number, purchase date, product details and reason for the request.
- Describe the problem and, where relevant, provide photos or video and proof of competent installation. These support diagnosis but do not override your statutory rights.
- Wait for return instructions and an agreed collection or courier arrangement. Keep protective packaging and do not tamper with the item.
- We will inspect or test the item as reasonably necessary and communicate the findings, legally available remedy, and any optional paid repair or courier arrangements.
10. Refund processing
Approved refunds will be processed to the original payment method where reasonably possible and safe, or by another agreed lawful method. Processing times depend on the basis for the refund and the payment provider. For an applicable section 44 online cooling-off cancellation, any payment already made must be refunded within 30 days of cancellation as the Act requires. Statutory defective-goods refunds and other legally required remedies will be provided within the applicable lawful timeframes and without unauthorised deductions.
11. Important legal protection
Nothing in this policy limits or removes consumers' rights under the Consumer Protection Act, Electronic Communications and Transactions Act or other applicable South African law. If any part conflicts with those laws, the mandatory legal protection prevails.
